Laser Therapy for Injury

Non-invasive, pain-free, light-based laser therapy in Victoria that uses red and infrared light to target inflamed, injured and diseased tissues. Laser acts to stimulate the cells responsible for healing and results in: repair and regeneration of local blood supply, remodeling of collagen (a component of scar tissue), repair of damaged muscle fibers, a reduction of inflammation to the damaged area, new cartilage production and activation of bone-building cells.

The result of all the above is that compared to traditional treatment, patients recover from musculoskeletal and peripheral nerve injuries with less scar tissue, accelerated cell regeneration and improved function. We have found that for sprain/strain injuries, such as a motor vehicle collision or an ankle sprain or even plantar fasciitis, laser therapy can speed healing and complements chiropractic care to ensure proper healing.

Over 2000 studies worldwide show low-level laser therapy- LLLT ( photobiomodulation, or PBM is the new term) to be totally safe. These studies have proven that PBM reduces pain and inflammation by, among other mechanisms, slowing sensory nerve production and endogenous opiate production. ATP is the molecule that fuels our cells and light can directly increase production of ATP by as much as 150%. This new ATP that is produced is then used by cells at the injured site to carry-out the repair and/or regenerative functions.

Once the inflammation has subsided somewhat, then the fibroblast cells can produce and lay-down the collagen which will form the actual scar tissue. Obviously the sooner that this can be accomplished, the sooner you can be out of discomfort and can start rehabilitation.

If you’re looking for laser therapy in Victoria and are not sure if your case is one for laser please get in touch so we can discuss it and determine if you’re a candidate.
